Let's Talk

Tasks Unlimited along with three other agencies are collaborating on a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor for a Welfare-to-Work program.  The grant, titled "Work In Progress or W.I.P." is intended to provide work for people who have significant barriers to employment.

Tasks Unlimited, RISE, AccessAbility, Community University Health Care Center (CUHCC) and Opportunity Partners are working with people receiving  MFIP to assist them to get and to keep a job, and to ultimately become independent from MFIP entirely.

The following are some frequently asked questions about W.I.P.

Q   What is MFIP?

MFIP is the Minnesota Family Investment Program.  It was formerly  known as AFDC or welfare.

Q   If I am on MFIP, how can I work with Tasks?

You must be referred by your MFIP  Job Counselor.

Q   How much will it cost me to work with Tasks?

It's free.

Q   Why is it a good idea to work with Tasks?

Our main goal is to assist a person, one-on-one, with issues that may interfere with being hired or may interfere with their ability to keep a job.  That includes helping people with job searches, writing a resume, interviewing and  communication skills, coordinating transportation, child care, money management and housing.

Q   What can Tasks give me that other agencies cannot?

Tasks provides a one to 10 ratio, which means we are able to give you as much support as you require to find a job and to maintain it.  We also provide an incentive program where people can earn gift certificates as rewards for attendance and punctuality, promotions, completion of training/GED, obtaining a driver's license, etc.

Q   What type of jobs can Tasks help me find?

Any type of job you are interested in and qualified for.  We work closely with employers to help them understand a person's unique job needs and offer our ongoing services to facilitate positive communication.

Q   What will you do to help me find a job?

We determine your skills and interest, we contact employers, we assist you to fill out applications and make a resume, and we help you with interviewing skills.

Q   How long will Tasks work with me?

Tasks will work with you for as long as you need assistance.  If you find work and are able to maintain employment without assistance, we will just check in with you on a regular basis.
